Galvanised Steel Roller Shutter Systems

A galvanised steel roller shutter is a motorised closure in which roll-formed galvanised steel slats coil around a barrel to seal an opening. With 0.75–1.20 mm slat thickness, 77–115 mm slat profiles and 2.00 mm guide rails, it provides high impact and burglary resistance for shop, warehouse and factory doorways.

What are Galvanised Steel Roller Shutter?

The galvanised steel roller shutter is the most popular security closure in the Pack Door rolling systems range. Hot-dip galvanised steel coils are converted into slat profiles on a roll-forming line; the slats interlock with one another and coil around a barrel inside a compact box. This design allows wide openings to be secured with only a small headroom requirement.

Each system is engineered around the opening size, wind load and number of daily cycles. Slat type (77, 97 or 115 mm), thickness, motor torque and RAL colour are selected to suit the application. Every shutter is made to measure at our production facility in Tuzla, Istanbul, and commissioned by our experienced installation teams.

Where thermal and acoustic insulation matter most — shops, pharmacies and residential garages — the same system is supplied with polyurethane-filled slats, combining security and energy efficiency in a single product.

Benefits of Galvanised Steel Roller Shutter

The features that make a difference on site and are asked about most during surveys.

High impact and burglary resistance
Heavy-gauge galvanised slats, 2 mm guide rails and a bottom locking profile provide strong resistance to forced entry.
Long-lasting corrosion protection
Hot-dip galvanising and electrostatic powder coating ensure a long service life, even in humid environments.
Made to measure
Every shutter is manufactured to fit its opening at our Tuzla facility — no forcing into standard sizes.
Minimal headroom
Slats coil around the barrel into a compact box, leaving ceiling and façade space unrestricted.
Safe automation
Photocells, a safety edge, limit switches and emergency manual release ensure safe operation.
Professional after-sales service
Motor maintenance, spring and slat replacement and spare parts supplied through the Pack Door service network.

Where are Galvanised Steel Roller Shutter used?

Galvanised Steel Roller Shutter are used in 8 different applications, including shop fronts, warehouse dispatch doors, factory entrances, jewellers and exchange offices, industrial-zone hangars, automotive service centres, logistics and bonded warehouses, residential garages. On every project, opening size, frequency of use and security requirements are assessed on site during the survey; the system is then made to measure and installed by our own crews.

Shop fronts
Perforated, windowed or solid shutters for night-time security and window display.
Warehouse dispatch doors
Impact-resistant steel shutters for openings with forklift and pallet traffic.
Factory entrances
Heavy-gauge slats and industrial motors for high-cycle site entrances.
Jewellers and exchange offices
Maximum security with high-mass steel slats and a reinforced locking profile.
Industrial-zone hangars
115 mm slats, a heavy-duty barrel and motor for wide openings and wind loads.
Automotive service centres
Wide, impact-resistant shutters for workshop and paint shop openings.
Logistics and bonded warehouses
Wide-span security closures for 3PL and bonded warehouse docks.
Residential garages
Polyurethane-filled slats and a quiet tubular motor for villa garages.

How to choose the right galvanised steel roller shutter

A poorly chosen system means early failures, high energy costs or security gaps. Choosing the right galvanised steel roller shutter depends on opening size, daily frequency of use, security and insulation requirements, motor and automation type, and budget. Consider the points below when deciding; we finalise them together during the site survey.

  1. 1

    Security priority

Heavy-gauge galvanised steel slats are the right choice for warehouses, jewellers and industrial sites.

  2. 2

    Insulation and quiet operation

The polyurethane-filled range is recommended for thermal and acoustic insulation and quiet closing.

  3. 3

    Opening size and wind

For wide, wind-exposed openings, 97–115 mm slats and an industrial-grade motor are specified.

  4. 4

    Daily cycles

For frequently used doors, a high-cycle central motor and fall-arrest brake are added.

How we work: from site survey to service

The process has four steps: free site survey, design and quotation, manufacturing and installation, and service. We send a price quote within 1 hour on average after your survey request. The approved system is made to measure at our facility in Tuzla, Istanbul, installed and commissioned by our own crews, and supported by scheduled maintenance and a 24/7 breakdown line.

  1. Site survey

Measurements are taken on site; usage intensity, electrical infrastructure and floor conditions are recorded.

  2. Design and quotation

Series, motor and accessories are selected; the quote is itemised and includes installation.

  3. Manufacturing and installation

Made to measure at our Tuzla facility and installed by our own installation crews.

  4. Service

Commissioning and user training, followed by scheduled maintenance and a 24/7 breakdown line.

Galvanised Steel Roller Shutter: frequently asked questions

If your question is not answered here, ask us by phone or on WhatsApp.

What is a galvanised steel roller shutter?

A galvanised steel roller shutter is a motorised security closure in which galvanised steel slats coil around a barrel to seal an opening. Pack Door manufactures them to measure with 77, 97 and 115 mm slat options. They provide strong protection against burglary for shop, warehouse, factory and car park entrances, and are installed with a tubular or side motor, remote control and emergency release system.

What slat thickness should a steel roller shutter have?

Typical slat thickness ranges from 0.75 to 1.20 mm. For shops, 0.75–0.90 mm is usually sufficient, while warehouses, industrial sites and wide, wind-exposed openings call for 1.00–1.20 mm slats and an industrial motor. The correct thickness is determined during the site survey based on opening width, frequency of use and wind load; an intermediate post is added if required.

What is the difference between galvanised and polyurethane-filled roller shutters?

A galvanised steel roller shutter uses single-skin, high-strength slats that prioritise security and is preferred for shop and warehouse entrances. A polyurethane-filled roller shutter uses double-skin slats with a foam core, providing thermal and acoustic insulation and quieter operation. Polyurethane-filled shutters are recommended for heated spaces; galvanised steel is recommended where high security is required.

How long does automatic roller shutter installation take?

A single roller shutter is usually installed within one day, depending on site preparation. Made-to-measure production is scheduled after the site survey and approval; on installation day the guide rails, barrel, motor and controls are fitted, and the system is tested before handover. For multi-door projects, the schedule is confirmed after the survey to minimise operational disruption.

What determines the price of a roller shutter?

Roller shutter price depends on the opening size, slat type and thickness, motor torque, control and safety accessories, and colour choice. Because every shutter is made to measure, quotes are prepared per project. Once dimensions and a photo of the opening are shared, Pack Door responds within about one hour on average; a detailed itemised quote can follow a site survey if needed.

How do you open a roller shutter during a power cut?

During a power cut, roller shutters with central or side motors can be opened by hand using the chain or crank manual override. If an optional battery backup unit is fitted, motorised operation continues throughout the outage. For tubular-motor shutters, a key-operated emergency release box is added for external access; the right method is chosen during the site survey according to the motor type.
